What Supercharging costs

Tesla sets Supercharger prices per site and by time of day, and changes them often. Across Triangle sites on 2026-10-24:

DaytimeOvernight
Tesla owners$0.42–$0.49/kWh$0.19–$0.21/kWh
Other EVs, no membership$0.62–$0.70/kWh$0.26–$0.33/kWh

The cheap overnight window starts at 10 or 11 pm and ends between 8 and 9 am, depending on the site. Some sites also add idle fees if a car stays plugged in after it finishes while the site is busy. The Tesla app shows each site's current price before you plug in.

Why daily Supercharging is harder than charging at home

  • Time. At home you plug in when you park and wake up full. Relying on a Supercharger means driving to it and waiting at the stall, often a few times a week, and charging slows as the battery fills, so most stops end around 80%.
  • Battery. Tesla's owner's manual says a battery's peak charging rate may decrease slightly after a large number of DC fast-charging sessions such as Supercharging. Slower Level 2 charging overnight doesn't have that effect.
  • Price. The cheapest Supercharger hours are overnight, the same hours you'd be asleep with the car in your driveway.

Superchargers are built for road trips, and they're very good at them. For the daily miles, a Level 2 charger at home covers a typical day's driving in a few hours: a Tesla Wall Connector on a 60A circuit adds up to 44 miles of range per hour.

Can other EVs use these Superchargers?

Many can. 5 of the 6 sites above are open to other brands, shown as "Available to Non-Tesla" or with your car's brand in the Tesla app. Older Tesla-only sites aren't. Newer EVs with a NACS port plug straight in; cars with a CCS port need the adapter approved by their automaker. Without a membership (about $12.99 a month), other EVs pay the higher price in the table above.

At home it's simpler: a Level 2 charger with your car's plug, or a Tesla Universal Wall Connector, which has both. A licensed electrician installs and permits it. Charger installation for other EVs in Wake Forest.
