How it works

EV Overnight Advantage is a pilot rate that started January 1, 2026. Every night from 11 pm to 5 am, weekends and holidays included, your electricity costs half the standard price. There's no peak-hour surcharge like Duke's whole-home time-of-use plans have. It works with a Level 1 or Level 2 charger, and renters with their own meter can join too. You'll need proof that you own or lease an EV.

Schedule R-TOU-EV. Base energy prices before fuel and other riders, so your bill's all-in price per kWh is higher.

The whole home moves to this rate, not just the charger. It pays off when your car (and ideally the dryer and dishwasher) runs overnight. Set your charger or car to start at 11 pm.

Before you switch

  • Enrollment is capped at 20,000 customers per Duke company and closes 24 months after launch (about January 2028) if the cap isn't reached first.
  • If you leave the rate, you can't rejoin a time-of-use rate for 12 months.
  • Duke Energy Progress and Duke Energy Carolinas merge on January 1, 2027, and rate increases for both are pending for 2027, so prices may change.
  • Duke doesn't offer an off-peak charging bill credit in North Carolina, and its Charger Solution rental program stopped taking new customers in August 2026.
